Burrows Safety

People are understandably concerned about the safety of burrow, but unfortunately this has lead to a lot of misinformation and fear mongering within the animal jam community. I'd like to clear up a few things if at all possible.Yes burrow is not 100% safe, this goes for all emulators and downloadable private servers. Including popular ones like fer.ever a fer.al private server (that is running to this day)At the current moment of 10/19/26 the game is completely malware free, it has passed every scan and users who have by hand reviewed the code have found zero issues.Note
There is a github page dedicated to scanning the Burrow files to check for harmful material. You can view it here
This is the most up to date one but it does use ai to scan through it, I will do my best to find another up to date one that isn't using ai.

Adjusted the AI and Moderation section with more up to date information

How To Play Burrow Safely

Burrow allows you to turn off auto updates in your advanced settings (bottom of your page) before you login, this way you yourself can check each updates safety before it is installed.Running this program on a Virtual Machine is also highly recommended, there are free options. VirtualBox is a popular optionAnd for the final bit of safety, you can use a VPN. The best ones are paid, free VPNS themselves can also have privacy concerns. This carrd also provides information on safety tips

Debunking The Claims and "Evidence"

Popular animal jam servers have been spreading false information about this server, so here I will be clearing up each claim I come across that is being spread around. All but one claim (the malware report below) have zero screenshots claiming to be evidence, it's been only hearsay. You may click or tap on an image to view them in full..

The Malware Report

This was one of the first claims, they say that this malware investigation report was against burrow.

This report was actually made by Burrows dev himself, toward someone elses program that had malware and was months before burrow had turned public.

10/19/26 AJ Discord Server Announcement

As of writing this today there was a massive announcement on a very popular discord server.I will provide screenshots of the entire announcement in full below, after that I will explain why it is nothing but "what if" scenarios.

This first section covers the dev and his identity. They assume just because he wont share his previous aliases that he has broken the rules on their server, aj, etc. The dev claims he was doxxed in the past and they state that he must've been a "well known problematic person in the animal jam community" because of such.Anyone can be doxxed, no matter their status in a community. It is the devs right to keep himself anonymous especially because if he does tell someone his previous alias's they would also obtain his personal irl information alongside it.It is not right to automatically assume that someone who is a victim of a crime is also criminal themselves because they don't want to tell you the information that can lead to finding their dox.

10/19/26 AJ Discord Server Announcement part 2

This next section covers copyright, moderation, and ip addresses. This announcement was made 10/19/26, but the information is outdated. They provide lots of screenshots of inappropriate names, avatars, etc. These accounts have already been banned, there is a new built in chat filter for extreme content including racism, extreme sexual content, etc. All of this is from day 1-2 of the server gaining traction after keks video, when only one moderator was in the server. These have already been solved or are in the process of being solved. The concerns with the discord linking, can also be solved by just looking at the connection, they only get your username, avatar, etc. they receive no other information

10/19/26 AJ Discord Server Announcement part 2.5

Continuing with this, their concerns about burrow having your IP, and a quick note on copyright. This announcement was made on a discord server for selling animal jam items, their concerns about copyright are purely hypocritical because they themselves are violating animal jams copyright and TOS by selling their intellectual property. Private servers have existed for many years for many games, they are treated less harshly than users who sell a games intellectual property for profit because private servers 90% of the time make no profit, meaning a ton of games do actually allow or even encourage private servers. For the IPs, this entire section is entirely made up of "what if the developer does this". It is fear mongering. All of the steps they provide about someone looking up your linked servers, joining them, finding your face or personal information, is all something any user can do. This is a general issue on internet safety and not related to burrow.
Having an IP on top of this, will hardly do a thing, especially if someone's already practically doxing themself.

10/19/26 AJ Discord Server Announcement part 3

Here are my responses to faemiks questions to burrow dev.1. Another assumption of the devs identity without evidence, when the dev is a doxing victim giving out his previous alias will also provide his real information.2. Another assumption the dev will do something harmful with just an IP, and the discord linking only receiving the discord username which is opt and public already3. A risk from any and all emulators and private servers, not just burrow. If you play fer.ever you also run into this risk.4. The malware is a reasonable concern but is a what-if, and general internet security education that should be taught to the users, this is not on burrowdev5. The same point as #36. I will not comment on the moderator issue, as this happened within 1-2 days of the server being flooded that they were added then removed.7. Again point #1

My response to the general announcement about the q&a.1. Copy and paste from above.
Another assumption of the devs identity without evidence, when the dev is a doxing victim giving out his previous alias will also provide his real information.
2. The concerns were addressed, he is correct that having an IP alone really is not a big deal and every website/game will have your IP.3. Copy and paste from above.
I will not comment on the moderator issue, as this happened within 1-2 days of the server being flooded that they were added then removed.
4. I am unsure how this question even relates to the issue at hand.5. I cannot find this claim in the announcement, but again if there is a backdoor using a VM or turning off auto updates completely dismisses this issue, alongside it again being an issue for every emulator/private server.6. It does clear the worry about the malware, because you can check it before even installing it. Installing updates is optional. The only other response could've been "I wont add malware" and that wouldn't have been acceptable.7. I have not touched the 2FA so i cannot comment on the information about it at this moment in time.8. The Leakcheck site having all of peoples AJC information is on AJC and not burrow even if burrow ips do get leaked. AJC had the breach in the first place and if there was no IP logging on burrow people would never be able to get IP banned..

10/19/26 AJ Discord Server Announcement part 4

This concern can be solved with a VM.Practically any emulator and private server will have this risk. But Burrow actually allows you to turn off auto updates to you can check yourself or wait for second-hand reports before installing it.On the concern of a possible data-breach, they wouldn't receive very personal information unlike the one AJC had, The AJC breach had revealed users REAL names, emails, usernames and passwords, your entire birthday, gender, etc.If burrow were to have a databreach the only thing they would obtain is your ip and your username and password, which should already never be associated with your real AJC accounts anyway and you can easily hide your real IP with a VPN.I'd also again like to focus on the part about the devs identity.
"People claim that this individual may not be who we think it is based on accent, but anyone can easily fake an accent."
It is unfair to assume someone may be a user you fear/dislike when the only information you've given players is that they're anonymous, the entire assumption has no grounds and does nothing but cause fear and panic in a community.

10/19/26 AJ Discord Server Announcement Final Note

In the end this entire announcement was made because they are guessing burrow dev is a user they dislike. They claimed many times that they would provide or have evidence of malware or even the devs idenity but in the end they never provided a shred of proof besides their own word of mouth. The main source of the claims of malware has come from this server, one who thrives off of users who stay in ajc to purchase from their group. It is clear to see that burrow, a server that allows you to spawn in anything you want at any time is being seen as a threat.

Burrows Current Safety Concerns

AI

This is not hidden information but yes burrow does use ai assistance in its code. You can take of that information as you will. It was not entirely generated using ai, and the dev even claims in some ways that burrow itself is safer than ajc.
you can take this with a grain of salt
From what was stated from a burrow moderator as well as others who previewed the games code, it seems only the decomplication of AJC's code was AI assisted meaning around 99% of the code is AJC's and hand-made.It's up to the player to decide if this is something you stand against, but the amount of AI used in this game is very minimal, not being relied on, and shouldn't effect the quality or safety of the game at this time.Just remember that WildWorks is also pro ai and nft and has used it + allowed others to use it in their projects. I think criticism should be on both ends.

IP Addresses

It sounds scary but Burrow DOES log your IP Address, the thing is so does every single online game you play and website you visit.
This means the moderators of the game can ALSO view your IP.
As long as you yourself dont post identifiable information online, just an IP alone will do nothing, they are a rough estimation of location and can even get it wrong. At the end of the day, this concern can be pushed to the side if a VPN is used.

Moderation

At the moment Burrows moderation is slim, that is why at the time of writing this 10/19/26 Burrow has shut down their server for 24hrs to upgrade their moderation tools and bring on new moderators. There has been reasonable concern about the safety of minors, the first 3 days of the server gaining traction it was a chaotic mess with racism, sexual content, and more. But at this time they only had ONE moderator. They have been very quick to crack down on these problematic users, implementing an automatic chat filter for dangerous or very sexual topics, and in one day have handled over 600 reports.Understandably burrow did not expect this much attention on their very work in progress project, they are taking the steps they can at this moment to improve and take accountability.Edit: as of 10/21/26 Burrow has added at minimum 14 new moderators to the team.
